Dangote IPO Valuation: How Analysts Are Estimating $39B–$50B

Where the $39–50 Billion Valuation Range Comes From

Unlike a typical valuation estimate built purely from analyst models, the figures circulating for Dangote’s refinery are unusually well-anchored in actual, if private, transactions. Here’s the chain of evidence, in order.

In July 2026, Dangote Petroleum Refinery completed a $2.5 billion private placement led by the Africa Finance Corporation, reportedly 3.7 times oversubscribed by African and international institutional investors.

That round sold roughly 6% of the company at a price implying a valuation of about $40 billion — a real, transacted price, even though it was set privately rather than in a public market. Separately, earlier reporting (around June 2026) referenced private placement share pricing of about $0.35 each, which analysts calculated as implying a floor valuation of roughly $39.1 billion.

In August 2026, a further $1 billion underwriting programme — structured by Marob Strategies and Lilium Capital Group, comprising a $600 million funded private placement and a $400 million conditional underwriting commitment — added another data point of investor demand, though it wasn’t reported with an explicit new valuation figure attached.

Why the Upper End ($50 Billion) Is Still Just a Target

The higher end of the range, up to $50 billion, reflects company and analyst targets for where the public offer could eventually price — not a confirmed transaction. Aliko Dangote’s own public statements about the offer size have shifted over time, from “five to 10 percent” of the company in October 2025 to “approximately 10 percent” by April 2026, and CEO David Bird has since declined to confirm either the exact stake size or valuation publicly. An oversubscribed private round is a genuine signal of appetite at the price offered in July — it is not the same as confirmation of what public market investors will pay in October.

What Would Finally Confirm the Real Valuation

The only way to get a confirmed, audited valuation is the company’s official SEC-approved prospectus, expected around September 2026, which should disclose real financial statements alongside the actual offer price and share count. Until then, treat every number in this article — including the widely repeated $39–50 billion range — as the best available estimate from real but partial transaction data, not a settled fact.

It’s also worth flagging that valuation ranges this wide ($39 billion to $50 billion is roughly a 28% spread) are not unusual for large private companies ahead of a public listing — the gap simply reflects the difference between what’s already been transacted privately and what optimistic public-market pricing could theoretically support.
