What Is the Minimum Investment in African Stocks?
1 min Read October 23, 2026 at 11:17 AM UTC

There is no single minimum amount required to invest across all African stock exchanges.
The amount needed depends on the exchange, the share price, permitted trading quantities, brokerage fees, and the investment platform.
Some platforms make it possible to begin with relatively small amounts.
Can You Start Investing With $10?
Daba has promoted access to investments starting from approximately $10, although minimums vary across products and markets.
An investor buying individual shares generally needs enough money to purchase the required quantity of shares and cover transaction costs.
For example, if a stock trades at ₦100 and a transaction requires 100 shares, the share purchase would cost ₦10,000 before commissions.
However, trading-lot requirements differ between markets and securities. A 100-share lot should not be assumed to be the minimum for all NGX securities, nor should a fixed 5-share minimum be assumed for every BRVM stock.
Why Do Transaction Fees Matter?
Small investments can be disproportionately affected by brokerage commissions and minimum fees.
Suppose an investor makes a $20 purchase and pays $2 in transaction charges.
The initial transaction cost represents 10% of the investment amount.
Larger orders can reduce the percentage impact of fixed commissions, although investors should not invest more than they can afford simply to reduce fees.
What Should Beginners Invest In?
Beginners should consider their investment goals, risk tolerance, time horizon, and ability to diversify.
Stocks, bonds, and managed funds have different risk and return characteristics.
The Daba app provides access to eligible products, while Daba Academy offers educational resources for investors learning how financial markets work.
