The inaugural edition of the challenge last year attracted 314 applications from startups across 63 countries. This year, the Grand Prix Award winner will receive up to JPY5 million, equivalent to US$32,000, in proof-of-concept funding. This award also includes a chance to collaborate with Yamaha and its partners. The Yamaha Award offers up to JPY2 million, or US$13,000, in funding and a collaboration with the company.

Successful startups will gain the opportunity to co-create with Yamaha, leveraging its proprietary technologies, domain expertise, and assets. They will also access exclusive fundraising discussions with the company’s corporate venture capital team. This provides African innovators with a pathway to significant backing and market access from a global industry leader.
