Nigeria's AVA Capital Joins NGX Main Board After Listing

Daba Finance/Nigeria's AVA Capital Joins NGX Main Board After Listing
AFRICAN STOCKS AND FINANCEAugust 4, 2026 at 8:41 AM UTC

TLDR

  • AVA Capital Plc listed 5 billion shares on Nigerian Exchange’s Main Board under ticker AVACAP, reaching a market value of ₦37.5 billion.
  • Listing by introduction allows existing shareholders to trade holdings without issuing new shares, boosting market value to ₦41.25 billion with a 10% gain.
  • AVA Capital reports revenue of ₦3.46 billion and a profit after tax of ₦1.02 billion for the 6 months through June, reflecting growth and transparency in governance.

AVA Capital Plc listed 5 billion shares on the Nigerian Exchange’s Main Board through a listing by introduction, giving the financial-services group a market value of ₦37.5 billion. The shares were admitted at ₦7.50 each under the ticker AVACAP on July 31.

A listing by introduction brings existing shares to the market without selling new stock or raising cash. The move allows AVA Capital’s shareholders to trade their holdings while placing the company under NGX disclosure, governance and reporting rules.

The stock gained 10% on its first trading day to close at ₦8.25, raising its market value to ₦41.25 billion. It was also among the 3 most traded stocks by volume during the week. The listing came as the NGX All-Share Index had gained 57.6% in 2026.

AVA Capital provides investment banking, asset management, securities trading and trustee services through units including AVA Global Asset Managers, AVA Securities and AVA Trustees. The group reported revenue of ₦3.46 billion and profit after tax of ₦1.02 billion for the 6 months through June. Total assets stood at ₦111 billion, while equity was ₦12.7 billion.

The company converted from a private company to a public company as part of its plan to list. Chairman Yinka Adedeji said the admission reflects the group’s governance and growth plans. Chief Executive Officer Kayode Fadahunsi said the listing adds duties on transparency, execution and shareholder returns.

Points clés à retenir

AVA Capital’s admission adds a financial-services company to the NGX without bringing new money into the business. That distinction matters. Existing shareholders gain a market price and a route to sell shares, but the company receives no proceeds for expansion. At the ₦7.50 listing price, AVA Capital was valued at ₦37.5 billion, almost 3 times its June book equity of ₦12.7 billion. The first-day rise to ₦8.25 increased that value to ₦41.25 billion. Investors will now judge whether earnings can support that price. The group made ₦1.02 billion after tax in the first half, but much of its balance sheet is linked to client investment funds and financial instruments. This means investors should track fee income, interest margins, asset growth, costs and the share of profit tied to market conditions. The listing also gives AVA Capital a platform for a future public offer, rights issue or acquisition paid with shares, though none has been announced. More disclosure may help investors compare it with other listed financial-services firms. Trading volume after the debut will show whether the listing produces lasting liquidity or only an opening burst of demand. It will also test investor interest beyond the first week of public trading.
