West Africa’s BRVM ended the week lower after its recent rally, even as trading activity increased. The BRVM Composite fell 0.32% to 553.71 points in the week ended September 18, while the BRVM 30 slipped 0.06% to 268.91. The BRVM Prestige gained 0.59% to 203.01, while the Principal Index dropped 2.72% to 396.35.

Trading volume jumped 234.58% to 24.59 million shares from 7.35 million a week earlier. Transaction value increased 25.40% to XOF 17 billion. Equity market capitalization declined 0.32% to XOF 21.35 trillion from XOF 21.42 trillion. Sonatel Senegal accounted for 31.37% of turnover, followed by Société Générale Côte d’Ivoire and Ecobank Transnational. Together, the 3 stocks represented 52.69% of value traded.

Selling covered most of the market, with 36 stocks falling against 9 gainers and 2 unchanged. Trading in SICOR, Sucrivoire and Sonoco Metal Packaging SIEM was also suspended during the week over issues related to disclosure requirements.

Vivo Energy Côte d’Ivoire led gains, rising 8.24% to XOF 2,760 ahead of a dividend payment. Sonatel gained 7.42% to XOF 42,190, taking its 2026 return to 61.52%, as investors awaited a shareholder vote on a proposed 1-for-10 stock split. BOA Burkina Faso led losses, falling 13.24% to XOF 7,800, followed by SETAO at 11.65% and Nei-CEDA at 9.45%.

The bond market was little changed, with capitalization down 0.01% to XOF 12.72 trillion. Trading totaled XOF 866.2 million, with Côte d’Ivoire’s 5.75% 2022-2032 bond accounting for 86.58% of turnover.
