Lighthouse Capital, an operator-led private equity firm, is actively raising a US$50 million private equity fund. This new fund is specifically designed to target high-growth mid-market businesses across South Africa and Kenya. The firm aims to combine long-term investment capital with hands-on operational expertise, focusing on sectors vital to the region's economic development.
The fund will concentrate its equity investments in manufacturing, fintech, agribusiness, and technology companies. Lighthouse Capital plans to deploy between US$5 million and US$10 million into each portfolio company it backs. To facilitate the fund's establishment and international fundraising efforts, Lighthouse Capital is collaborating with DTOS Group, a leading trust and corporate management firm known for structuring cross-border investment vehicles.
Lighthouse Capital is targeting its first close for the fund before the end of 2026. The firm has already built a robust pipeline, identifying more than 20 qualified investment opportunities within its target sectors. This strong initial positioning is expected to enable swift capital deployment once the fund successfully completes its first closing.
The firm believes that many high-potential businesses require more than just capital to achieve their next stage of growth and scale. Lighthouse Capital addresses this by implementing a structured value creation framework within the first 100 days of every investment. This framework focuses on enhancing financial reporting, operational efficiency, governance, and commercial execution, aiming to transform founder-led businesses into institutions capable of attracting long-term investment.
Founded in 2025, Lighthouse Capital operates with headquarters established in both Johannesburg and Nairobi. Nico Christoforou, General Partner and Chief Investment Officer, stated that the fund seeks to partner with institutional investors who share their conviction that operational excellence drives sustainable value creation. Anthony Muraya, CEO and General Partner, added that the firm provides the necessary operational infrastructure for founders who have already built profitable businesses in challenging markets to grow beyond their initial scope. Edwin Mbugua, COO and General Partner, emphasized the team's local presence, describing them as "Africans investing in Africa" with a deep understanding of the cities and businesses they support.
