Renaissance Capital Africa (RCA) recently raised its valuation of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals to N700.41 per share, marking a potential 33.4 percent upside from the refinery’s initial public offering (IPO) price of N525 per share. This updated assessment comes as the refinery's ongoing IPO, scheduled to close on October 27, 2026, has attracted significant global interest. Subscriptions have been received from over 90 nations, including investors from 51 of Africa’s 54 countries, making it a truly pan-African public offering.
RCA attributed its revised valuation to stronger refining margins and better-than-expected financial and operational performance during the first nine months of 2026. The investment research firm noted that the refinery's revenue, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), and net profit all exceeded its initial projections. The third quarter proved particularly strong, with revenue reaching $8.57 billion, 19.7 percent above RCA's estimate, and EBITDA surging to $2.92 billion, significantly surpassing its $1.50 billion forecast.
For the nine months ended September 30, 2026, Dangote Petroleum Refinery reported revenue of $22.5 billion, a 144 percent increase from $9.2 billion in the preceding year. Net profit reached $4.7 billion, a substantial turnaround from a $117.2 million loss recorded in the corresponding period of 2025. EBITDA also saw a nearly nine-fold increase to $5.5 billion from $627.6 million, while operating cash flow rose more than ten-fold to $3.68 billion. This improved performance also shifted the company from a net debt position of $1.73 billion in September 2025 to a net cash position of $651 million by September 2026.
This more bullish assessment by RCA underscores the refinery's robust earnings growth and improving financial position, offering a positive outlook for investors. The IPO itself has already set records, becoming the largest public offering ever launched in the Nigerian capital market on its opening day and surpassing the previous African record within its first ten days. This achievement demonstrates growing confidence in African-led industrial development and an increasing appetite among Africans to own strategic assets on the continent.
The projected upside in valuation, however, depends on the sustained strength of refining margins, consistent operating performance, and broader market conditions. The refinery's management views the IPO as a powerful demonstration of the growing sophistication and interconnectedness of African capital markets, potentially serving as a template for future continent-wide investment offerings. With no further extension of the offer period currently envisaged, the company has intensified investor education and engagement activities to ensure broader inclusion.
