Terra Leads $1M Round in Nigerian Cybersecurity Startup Aeon
TLDR
- Nigerian cybersecurity startup Aeon secures $1 million pre-seed funding in round led by Terra Industries and Resilience17.
- Aeon develops cybersecurity software for critical infrastructure, forming a commercial joint venture with Terra.
- Aeon and Terra plan to combine physical security systems with cybersecurity products for African and Global South markets.
Nigerian cybersecurity startup Aeon has raised $1 million in pre-seed funding in a round led by defense technology company Terra Industries. Resilience17, the investment fund of Flutterwave co-founder and CEO Olugbenga Agboola, also participated alongside other investors.
Founded by Samuel Ogbonyomi, Ben Eluan and Alex Idowu, Aeon is building cybersecurity software for banks, energy companies, governments, militaries and other organisations operating critical infrastructure. Its platform combines network and data security with tools for monitoring and fixing vulnerabilities across software, cloud systems and devices.
The investment follows a pilot between Aeon and Terra earlier in 2026. The companies have now formed a commercial joint venture that will combine Terra’s physical security systems with Aeon’s cybersecurity products. They plan to pursue contracts together with governments and companies across Africa and other Global South markets.
Terra develops autonomous systems used to protect infrastructure and military assets. Its investment in Aeon extends that model into digital security, allowing customers to address physical and cyber threats through the same commercial relationship. Aeon plans to position its technology as infrastructure that organisations can use to manage security operations without relying on multiple separate systems.
The company is entering a market where cyber risks are increasing. INTERPOL estimates cyber incidents have caused more than $3 billion in losses across Africa since 2019, with finance, healthcare, energy and government among the sectors affected. Aeon will use the funding to develop its product and expand deployments with Terra and other customers.
Points clés à retenir
The deal is notable because Terra is not investing in Aeon only as a financial backer. The 2 companies are creating a joint commercial model that combines physical and digital security for the same customers. Terra protects facilities, infrastructure and other assets through autonomous systems, while Aeon is designed to protect the networks, software and data those assets depend on. That gives both companies a route into government, military and corporate contracts where physical and cyber risks increasingly overlap. Aeon is also addressing another problem in cybersecurity: organisations often use many separate tools that do not provide one view of their exposure. Its platform aims to combine monitoring and response across networks, cloud infrastructure, code and endpoints. The $1 million round remains small for a cybersecurity company targeting governments and large institutions, so execution will depend on converting pilots into contracts and proving the technology can work across different environments. Terra’s existing relationships could help reduce that customer-acquisition problem. If the partnership works, Aeon could expand through Terra’s defense and infrastructure network while Terra adds cybersecurity to its product offering without building the capability internally.
