Can You Invest in Dangote IPO Via M-Pesa or MoMo?

Mobile money services like M-Pesa (widely used in Kenya) and MoMo (used across several West African markets) have made cross-border payments dramatically easier for everyday transactions. Naturally, investors ask whether they could use these services to fund a Dangote IPO subscription.
As of this writing, there is no official, published subscription process for the Dangote Refinery IPO, since the offer has been filed with Nigeria’s SEC but hasn’t been approved, priced, or opened yet. That means we genuinely don’t know yet whether mobile money will be an accepted funding channel for this specific offer; no prospectus or official payment instructions exist to confirm or rule this out.
What we can say generally: NGX IPO subscriptions have historically been funded primarily through traditional banking channels, bank transfers, and payment through receiving banks named in the offer’s prospectus, rather than mobile money platforms directly. Some fintech and brokerage platforms serving African diaspora investors have built mobile-money-to-brokerage funding flows for other investment products, converting mobile money balances into a form usable for stock purchases, but this is a feature of the specific platform or broker you use, not a standard, guaranteed NGX IPO payment method.
If direct mobile money payment isn’t an accepted method once the Dangote prospectus is published, a practical workaround many diaspora investors use is converting mobile money balances to a bank transfer via their mobile money provider or a linked bank account, then wiring funds through standard international transfer channels to their broker.
The most useful step right now is asking any broker or platform you’re considering whether they support mobile-money-based funding for their NGX accounts generally, so you know your options before an official Dangote subscription window opens, rather than assuming M-Pesa or MoMo will work without confirming.
