How Much Do You Need to Invest in the Dangote IPO?

A common question from beginner investors is simply: how much money do I need to participate in the Dangote IPO? The honest answer right now is that we don’t know yet, because no official prospectus, minimum subscription amount, or share price has been published as of this writing.
Here’s what we can say about how this typically works on the NGX. IPOs on the Nigerian Exchange generally set a minimum number of shares an investor must apply for, often called a minimum lot size, along with the price per share; multiply the two together and that’s your minimum entry cost. Minimum lot sizes and prices vary significantly by offer, so there’s no fixed “typical” minimum that applies across all NGX IPOs; some past offers have had relatively low entry points, while others have differed based on the specific deal structure.
For Dangote’s refinery IPO, reported private placement pricing, around $0.35 per share in an earlier private transaction, separate from any public offer, has circulated in the media, but that figure relates to a private placement, not necessarily the eventual public offer price or minimum lot size; treat it as one data point, not a confirmed minimum.
What we genuinely cannot tell you yet: the minimum number of shares, the price per share for the public offer, or your total minimum entry cost. This will only become clear once the SEC approves the offer and Dangote publishes its official prospectus, which will spell out the minimum subscription amount explicitly.
In the meantime, a reasonable approach is to avoid committing to a specific budget based on rumored figures, and instead prepare your brokerage account and funding source so you can act on the real numbers as soon as they’re officially published.
