What Documents Do You Need to Invest in an NGX IPO?

Like most regulated stock markets, the Nigerian Exchange requires standard know-your-customer (KYC) documentation before you can open a brokerage account and participate in an IPO. Exact requirements vary by broker, but here’s the general shape of what’s typically needed.
For Nigeria-resident investors, commonly requested documents include a valid means of identification (national ID card, international passport, driver’s license, or voter’s card), your Bank Verification Number (BVN), proof of address (such as a utility bill), recent passport photographs, and your Tax Identification Number (TIN) in some cases. Brokers use these to open both your brokerage account and your linked CSCS account, where shares are held electronically once allotted.
For diaspora Nigerians and foreign investors, requirements are broadly similar but adapted for non-residents: a valid international passport is typically the primary ID document, along with proof of address in your country of residence, and sometimes additional compliance paperwork specific to foreign or non-resident accounts. As covered elsewhere, BVN and Nigerian bank account requirements can vary by broker for this group, so it’s worth confirming directly.
For institutional or corporate investors, requirements expand to include incorporation documents, board resolutions authorizing the investment, and beneficial ownership disclosures, among other compliance paperwork.
For a future Dangote IPO specifically, no Dangote-specific documentation requirements have been published as of this writing, since the offer hasn’t been priced or opened. When it is, the official prospectus will typically confirm the exact application process and any documentation specific to that offer, layered on top of your broker’s standard KYC. The practical step now is getting your general brokerage and CSCS account KYC done in advance, so document collection isn’t the bottleneck when a real subscription window opens.
