Airtel Money Sets IPO Price, Targets $7 Billion Valuation
TLDR
- Airtel Money sets IPO price at £1.96 per share.
- The listing targets a $7 billion market capitalization on the London Stock Exchange.
- Admission is expected on October 14, with Airtel Africa remaining a strategic shareholder.
Airtel Mobile Commerce N.V., known as Airtel Money, the mobile money business of Airtel Africa, has set its initial public offering (IPO) price at £1.96 per share. Airtel Africa announced this on Thursday, following its September 23 declaration of intent for the mobile money subsidiary's IPO. The company intends to list its ordinary shares on the London Stock Exchange, with admission currently expected on October 14.
Under the offer, certain existing shareholders of Airtel Money are expected to sell 270 million existing shares. An additional 27 million shares may be sold if the over-allotment option is fully exercised. Airtel Africa will not sell its existing Airtel Money shares, except through the over-allotment option, and plans to remain a long-term strategic shareholder. Airtel Money intends to apply for admission to the Official List of the UK Financial Conduct Authority and for trading on the London Stock Exchange’s Main Market.
The £1.96 per share offer price implies an estimated market capitalisation of £5.3 billion, approximately $7.0 billion, at admission. Approximately 16.5% of Airtel Money’s issued ordinary share capital is expected to be held publicly if the over-allotment option is not exercised, potentially rising to 17.5% if the maximum additional shares are sold. The mobile money unit recorded $1.4 billion in turnover in 2025, more than one-third higher than the previous year.
This planned listing is significant as Airtel Money expects its public ownership level to make it eligible for inclusion in the FTSE UK indices. Airtel Africa has been planning to spin off its mobile money business from its core telecoms operations, driven by the financial subsidiary’s robust performance. This strategic move allows Airtel Africa to support Airtel Money's next phase as an independently listed business, maintaining its role as a long-term strategic shareholder.
Further details of the offer will be contained in Airtel Money’s prospectus, expected to be available on the company’s IPO website. Airtel Africa is a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile money services, operating across 14 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The company provides an integrated offer to its subscribers, including mobile voice and data services, as well as mobile money services.
