Key Takeaways
The latest gains extend a rally that has changed the scale of the BRVM in 2026. The Composite Index ended 2025 at 345.75 points, meaning its September 4 close of 548.60 represents a gain of about 58.7% this year. Equity market capitalization has moved from XOF 13.33 trillion at the end of 2025 to XOF 21.15 trillion, also an increase of about 59%. The breadth of this week’s advance matters: 31 stocks rose compared with 13 declines, while trading value increased 38.24%. That suggests the move was supported by more than a few large stocks. Banks remain part of the story. BIIC gained 22.35%, while Coris Bank rose after reporting higher income and profit. At the same time, Sonatel remained the market’s most traded company, showing that liquidity is still concentrated in a small group of names. The bond market tells a different story, with capitalization falling 1.26% and turnover concentrated in 3 government issues. For investors, the next question is whether company earnings and dividends can keep pace with share prices. After a gain of almost 59% in 8 months, the market will need profit growth to support higher valuations.
