BRVM Continues Recovery With Gains in Orange CI and Tractafric Motors CI

A stock market chart showing an uptrend on the Regional Stock Exchange (BRVM).
AFRICAN STOCKS AND FINANCEOctober 7, 2026 at 2:02 PM UTC

TLDR

  • The BRVM regional market posted its second consecutive day of gains on October 7.
  • Orange CI and Tractafric Motors CI led the way with significant gains.
  • Overall trading volume declined slightly, but Sonatel remained the most actively traded stock.

The regional market of the Regional Stock Exchange (BRVM) continued its recovery on Wednesday, October 7. The BRVM-Composite Index rose 0.56% to 547.91 points, marking its second consecutive session of gains. The BRVM-30 also rose 0.52% to 265.31 points, and the BRVM-Prestige rose 0.14% to 203.22 points.

Market sentiment improved, with 22 stocks rising and 15 falling. This breakdown contrasts with the previous session, which saw more declines. The market’s recovery thus appears to be more broadly based, although a few stocks still contributed significantly to the indices’ gains.

Orange CI once again stood out, rising 2.85% to 22,000 FCFA. This gain added approximately 91.9 billion FCFA to its market capitalization, bringing its total gain to more than 10% over two trading sessions. Tractafric Motors CI also posted a strong performance, climbing 4.96% to 4,340 CFA francs, representing a gain of more than 12% over two days. CIE CI followed with a 4.84% gain to 6,500 CFA francs, and SMB CI advanced 3.13% to 16,500 CFA francs.

However, the session was also marked by significant declines. ONATEL BF posted the sharpest drop, falling 5.94% to close at 2,770 CFA francs. Sucrivoire CI fell 3.23% to 2,700 CFA francs, and SIB CI declined 2.78% to 8,750 CFA francs. Overall market activity contracted, with 2.68 billion FCFA traded, a figure lower than the previous day’s.

Sonatel remained the most actively traded stock, accounting for 956 million CFA francs in transactions, or nearly 36% of the total trading volume. Although its share declined from Tuesday’s 42.48%, the stock retains its leading position in terms of volume. The continued recovery, driven by key stocks such as Orange CI and Tractafric Motors CI, confirms a positive trend for the start of the trading week.

Key Takeaways

The trading session on Wednesday, October 7, at the BRVM confirmed a recovery trend that had begun the previous day, signaling a resurgence of investor confidence in the regional market. The rise in the three main indices—notably the BRVM Composite for the second consecutive day—indicates a bullish momentum that extends beyond a few isolated stocks, as evidenced by the improved market sentiment, with more gainers than losers. Leading stocks such as Orange CI and Tractafric Motors CI played a driving role, with their cumulative gains over two days exceeding 10% and 12%, respectively, underscoring their attractiveness and their weight in market capitalization. These performances can be interpreted as reflecting the sound fundamentals of these companies or a general sense of optimism toward the sector. However, the overall decline in trading activity—with a trading volume of 2.68 billion CFA francs, down from the previous day—suggests that caution remains the order of the day for some investors, despite the gains. Sonatel’s continued status as the most-traded stock—albeit with a slightly reduced share—confirms its position as a benchmark in terms of liquidity. Sharp declines in stocks such as ONATEL BF serve as a reminder that the recovery is not uniform and that risks specific to certain companies persist. This trading session highlights a market in search of clear direction, where positive momentum is present but tempered by moderate trading activity.
