The Aliko Dangote Foundation has launched a Student Share Grant Initiative, offering Nigerian students free shares in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE (DPRP). This program aims to introduce young Nigerians to investment and ownership through direct participation in the company's ongoing Initial Public Offering. The initiative targets students aged 18 and above who are enrolled in recognized public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria, fostering early engagement with the capital market.
Under the scheme, eligible students who complete a required verification process through a designated Foundation platform will qualify for the grant. After being directed to the subscription channel, they must apply for a minimum of 10 DPRP shares in their own names and for their own benefit. Upon successful subscription, the Foundation will fund an application for an additional 10 shares in the student’s name at no extra cost, effectively doubling their initial investment.
The core of the initiative involves a 1:1 matching grant for student investors, providing a tangible incentive for participation. For every minimum subscription of 10 shares made by an eligible student, the Aliko Dangote Foundation will provide an additional 10 shares, significantly boosting their initial stake in DPRP. This direct participation offers a practical way for young people to engage with the capital market, experiencing the investment process from verification and subscription to allotment and ownership.
Chairman Alhaji Aliko Dangote stated the program's goal is to promote financial literacy, responsible investing, and long-term wealth creation among young Nigerians. He emphasized that supporting young people involves equipping them with knowledge and opportunities to participate in economic growth. Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Zouera Youssoufou added that the initiative bridges the gap between financial education and practical experience, allowing students to understand how the investment process works firsthand.
The Foundation stressed that participation is entirely voluntary and should not be interpreted as investment advice or a recommendation to acquire DPRP shares. Prospective participants are urged to carefully review the IPO documentation before making investment decisions. This standalone foundation program is aimed solely at promoting financial literacy and investment participation, inspiring a lifelong interest in asset ownership among young Nigerians.
