Vivo Energy, Setao Rally to Push BRVM Higher to Start Week

Daba Finance/Vivo Energy, Setao Rally to Push BRVM Higher to Start Week
BREAKING NEWSAugust 4, 2026 at 9:50 AM UTC

TLDR

  • BRVM Composite rose by 0.58% to 485.43 points, with gains in BRVM 30 by 0.60% to 231.45.
  • Ecobank Transnational Inc. led the rise, with a 4.55% increase to 69 FCFA and a significant market value rise.
  • Vivo Energy Côte d’Ivoire saw the top gain of the day, rising by 5.68% to 2,325 FCFA on positive first-half results and fuel price expectations.

Buyers returned to the BRVM on Monday, lifting the market after a week of caution. The BRVM Composite rose 0.58% to 485.43 points, while the BRVM 30 gained 0.60% to 231.45. The BRVM Prestige fell 0.38% to 176.88 as declines in some large stocks limited the advance. The session left the Composite up 1.70% in 2026.

Ecobank Transnational Inc. led the rise. The Togo-based banking group gained 4.55% to 69 FCFA, adding about 54.25 billion FCFA to its market value. Its weight in the BRVM indices gave the stock a large role in the session’s gains and helped offset losses elsewhere.

Vivo Energy Côte d’Ivoire rose 5.68% to 2,325 FCFA, the top gain of the day. Investors responded to its first-half results and expectations that fuel prices could support revenue. TotalEnergies Marketing Côte d’Ivoire added 0.50% to 2,990 FCFA. Pump prices in Côte d’Ivoire were held in July after an increase in May, keeping attention on fuel distributors.

Setao Côte d’Ivoire climbed 5.22% to 2,820 FCFA, while Bank of Africa Côte d’Ivoire advanced 4.95% to 11,350 FCFA. The gains showed demand across construction, banking and fuel distribution stocks. Listed equity capitalization ended the session at about 18.7 trillion FCFA.

Filtisac Côte d’Ivoire posted the largest loss, falling 3.05% to 1,910 FCFA. Tractafric Motors Côte d’Ivoire declined 2.55% to 4,400 FCFA, and Safca Côte d’Ivoire dropped 2.53% to 5,000 FCFA. Stock trading reached about 1.68 billion FCFA. Sonatel led turnover with 316.23 million FCFA, equal to 18.86% of the session’s value, confirming its role as the market’s main source of liquidity.

Key Takeaways

The session shows why headline index gains at the BRVM need to be read with trading data. ETI Togo rose only 3 FCFA, but its share count and index weight meant the move added about 54.25 billion FCFA to market value and pushed the main gauges higher. A low share price does not mean a company has little influence on an index. The same concentration appears in turnover. Sonatel alone generated 18.86% of stock trading, while total equity turnover of 1.68 billion FCFA was less than 0.01% of the exchange’s 18.7 trillion FCFA market value. That gap shows why investors can face limited liquidity outside a group of stocks. Vivo Energy, Setao and BOA Côte d’Ivoire added support, so the rise was not based on ETI alone. Still, the fall in the Prestige index shows that demand was uneven among large companies. The Composite’s 1.70% gain for 2026 also puts the day’s 0.58% rise in context: one session accounted for more than one-third of the year’s increase. The next sessions will show whether buyers keep adding positions or whether the move was a rebound after profit-taking. Turnover, market breadth and follow-through will matter more than one day’s index change.
