Egyptian semiconductor startup InfiniLink has raised $10 million in seed funding to develop its optical connectivity solutions for AI-driven data centers. The round was co-led by MediaTek and Saudi-based Sukna Ventures, with participation from Egypt Ventures and M Empire Angels.

Founded in 2022, InfiniLink designs silicon photonics-based optical transceiver chiplets that offer high-bandwidth and energy-efficient data connectivity. Its integrated optical transceiver chiplet (iOTC) technology is designed to overcome the power and scalability limits of conventional electrical interconnects in data centers.

The funding will be used to accelerate product development and commercialisation of InfiniLink’s chipsets, targeting growing bandwidth and energy needs in AI infrastructure. The company plans to use the capital to expand its engineering team, scale global operations, and meet rising demand from hyperscale and AI-focused data center operators.

Key Takeaways

As artificial intelligence reshapes computing, data centers are facing exponential increases in bandwidth and energy consumption. Traditional copper and optical cables are no longer sufficient. Silicon photonics, which combines optical and electronic components on a single chip, is emerging as a preferred solution. InfiniLink joins a growing group of startups developing chip-level solutions to reduce energy usage while boosting data throughput. The sector has drawn interest from both corporate and venture investors. MediaTek’s involvement signals rising strategic interest in Middle East and North African semiconductor talent. Egypt, in particular, is building a reputation in chip design, supported by government-led initiatives and increasing venture capital interest. InfiniLink’s focus on co-packaged optics and low-power transceivers positions it in a niche with few regional competitors. As cloud providers and AI companies build larger, more power-hungry models, demand for such solutions is expected to grow. This funding positions InfiniLink to tap into a global, high-growth market.
