BancTrust & Co. Investment Bank (BancTrust), the London-based Emerging Markets investment bank, has announced the official launch of a new affiliate office in Lagos, Nigeria.

BancTrust & Co. Investment Bank is a leading London-based global emerging markets investment bank that offers corporate and investment banking, securities dealing and financing, investment research products, and services to a diversified client base mainly comprised of emerging and frontier markets-based corporations, financial institutions, governments, and dedicated global EM asset managers.

The initial Lagos-based team is comprised of Ayodeji Dawodu, Director CEEMEA Fixed Income, Oluwaseun (Seun) Onayiga, Managing Director and Head of SSA Debt Capital Markets, and Omobola Adu, Economist covering SSA.

Key Takeaways

Nigeria, as Africa's largest economy, presents a compelling opportunity for investment banking. The opening of BancTrust & Co. Investment Bank's affiliate office in Lagos underscores this potential. Nigeria offers a vast and dynamic market with diverse sectors, including finance, energy, telecommunications, and agriculture, among others. Investment banks can tap into Nigeria's economic growth, attractive demographics, and increasing foreign direct investment. The country's evolving financial landscape, coupled with a rising middle class, creates demand for sophisticated financial services, including investment banking. More so, Nigeria's financial markets are gradually becoming more open and sophisticated, offering investment banks opportunities in capital raising, mergers and acquisitions, debt issuance, and advisory services. The Nigerian Stock Exchange continues to grow, and the government's focus on infrastructure development and diversification further fuels the need for financial expertise.
