TLDR

  • Co-creation Hub (CcHub) selects 12 ed-tech startups for the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship
  • Selected ventures include Topset for language learning, Exam Scholars for testing, and Data Entry Academy (DEA) for job seekers
  • Other startups in the cohort focus on areas such as professional development, animation skills, and interactive learning

Co-creation Hub (CcHub) has chosen 12 ed-tech startups to participate in the second cohort of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship, which offers industry support and funding to empower startups changing Africa's education sector.

Among the selected ventures are language learning solution Topset, testing and learning platform Exam Scholars, and Data Entry Academy (DEA), a virtual academy and community that equips job seekers with essential skills. Genti Media, focusing on African education and storytelling, also made the list.

The cohort includes school discovery and matching platform Edusko, on-demand professional development course provider Harde Business, and animation skills provider Magic Lab Academy. Proud African Roots, an interactive learning platform, is also part of the cohort. Rounding out the group are learning platform for the visually impaired Vinsighte, the social-emotional learning platform IM FLOW, career development platform WIFICOMBAT, and online learning service Skill Up With Kahdsole.

Key Takeaways

The past few years have seen a rise in the adoption of edtech innovation in Africa. With hundreds of millions of students in primary and secondary schools, technology presents a massive opportunity for improving education access and quality on the continent. Available projections indicate that the African edtech market will grow into a multibillion-dollar industry, driven by increasing demand for online learning solutions, e-books, and educational apps. However, significant challenges remain for players in the space, such as access to funding and route-to-market which incubators like Injini’s can help address.
