Nigerian health tech company MDaaS Global, known for its network of tech-enabled diagnostic centers across Nigeria, has raised $3 million in pre-Series A funding.
The funding round was led by Aruwa Capital and Newton Partners, with the latter previously leading MDaaS's $2.3 million seed extension in 2021. Ventures Platform also participated in this round, providing follow-on capital, bringing MDaaS's total investment to $6.8 million.
MDaaS intends to use this investment to launch BeaconOS, its proprietary technology platform introduced last year. The seven-year-old health tech firm also aims to expand its healthcare network to encompass all Nigerian states, utilizing a combination of company-owned and affiliate clinics.
Key Takeaways
Access to healthcare in Nigeria and across Africa remains a formidable challenge, with a predominant focus on treating rather than preventing diseases. Consequently, life-threatening ailments, particularly non-communicable ones, often evade detection until advanced stages. Enhancing access to diagnostics and preventive care, an area in which MDaaS has excelled, is crucial in addressing this healthcare dilemma. Since its inception, it claims to have provided care to over 275,000 patients through its integrated care network and BeaconOS capabilities. In the past year alone, this healthtech served 108,724 patients, with women constituting 60.8% of the total clientele. Moreover, MDaaS facilitated over 240,000 diagnostic tests, with chest X-rays, urinalysis, and full blood count emerging as the top three procedures performed. Through such endeavors, MDaaS and many other healthtech startups are actively contributing to bridging the gap in healthcare accessibility and transforming the landscape of preventive care in Africa.
