Moniepoint Acquires Orda to Embed Payments Into Restaurant Operations

Daba Finance/Moniepoint Acquires Orda to Embed Payments Into Restaurant Operations
STARTUP VENTURE CAPITALMarch 23, 2026 at 11:08 PM UTC

TLDR

  • Moniepoint acquires Orda, rebrands it as Moniebook for Restaurants to integrate payments into merchant operations and expand business management platform.
  • Orda, serving over 1,000 restaurants, adds restaurant management capabilities to Moniepoint, enabling automatic reconciliation and reducing manual processes.
  • The acquisition reflects African fintech's shift towards embedded finance, combining restaurant management tools with payment infrastructure to create a full-stack platform, enhancing customer retention and data advantages for additional services like lending.

Moniepoint has acquired Orda in a move to integrate payments directly into merchant operations and expand its business management platform.

Orda will be rebranded Moniebook for Restaurants and integrated into Moniebook, Moniepoint’s software for managing sales, inventory and finances. The platform will continue to operate independently until integration is completed in the coming months.

The deal adds restaurant management capabilities to Moniepoint’s payments infrastructure. Orda currently serves more than 1,000 restaurants and processed over 5.2 million transactions in 2024. Its clients include chains operated by Eat’N’Go, which manages Domino’s Pizza and Cold Stone Creamery franchises in Nigeria.

Moniepoint said restaurants already account for significant transaction volume on its network, with about ₦8 billion in daily spending processed in 2025. The acquisition allows the company to combine payments with operational software used by merchants.

Under the new system, transactions recorded in the restaurant platform will be linked directly to payments processed through Moniepoint terminals, enabling automatic reconciliation and reducing manual processes.

Key Takeaways

The acquisition reflects a shift in African fintech toward embedded finance, where payments are integrated into business software rather than offered as standalone services. By combining Orda’s restaurant management tools with its payment infrastructure, Moniepoint is building a full-stack platform that handles both operations and financial transactions. This model increases customer retention because businesses rely on a single system to run daily activities. It also creates data advantages, as transaction records, inventory flows and sales patterns can be analysed together. This data can support additional services such as lending, where credit decisions are based on real business performance rather than limited financial history. The strategy mirrors global trends where fintech companies expand into vertical software tailored to specific industries. Restaurants are a first target due to high transaction volumes and operational complexity. The integration also addresses inefficiencies in fragmented systems, where sales and payments are handled separately, leading to reconciliation issues and potential revenue leakage. In Africa, where many small businesses still operate with manual processes, embedding payments into operational tools can improve efficiency and formalise transaction flows. The deal also highlights growing consolidation in the African tech ecosystem, where larger fintech firms acquire smaller platforms to expand capabilities and accelerate growth.
