Nigerian logistics company Cargoplug has launched its first self-managed hub in the United Kingdom to strengthen operations along the UK–Nigeria trade route. The move follows over a decade of operations focused on cross-border deliveries for individuals and businesses.
Founded in 2013 as Jand2Gidi by Kikelomo Fola-Ogunniya and Ujama Akpata, the company rebranded to Cargoplug as it expanded beyond consumer-to-consumer (C2C) deliveries into business-focused logistics. The company now serves B2C, B2B, and B2B2C clients using proprietary technology and API integrations. These services include overseas pickup, customs clearance, insurance, and last-mile delivery.
With over one million packages delivered in 12 years, Cargoplug’s UK expansion is aimed at improving control over logistics processes and better meeting customer needs in both markets. The UK hub is expected to enhance delivery reliability and speed, and support the firm’s larger plans to expand into other high-volume trade corridors, including the US, Turkey, and China.

Key Takeaways
Cargoplug’s UK expansion highlights the growing importance of the UK–Nigeria trade corridor, driven by increased demand for efficient cross-border logistics among both diaspora consumers and global brands. According to the UK’s Department for Business and Trade, bilateral trade in goods and services between the UK and Nigeria reached £6.9 billion in 2023, making Nigeria the UK’s second-largest African trading partner. Cargoplug’s decision to operate its own hub signals a shift from reliance on third-party networks to full-stack logistics control, a trend seen among startups seeking to enhance visibility, cost efficiency, and reliability in last-mile delivery. With Nigeria’s e-commerce sector projected to reach $9 billion by 2027, improved logistics infrastructure is key to meeting the rising expectations of both local and diaspora shoppers. The startup’s expansion also reflects increasing investor and customer confidence in African-founded logistics platforms scaling internationally, particularly as global trade routes diversify beyond traditional shipping corridors.
