South African digital learning company Rekindle Learning has acquired Cape Town-based edtech startup EpiTek for an undisclosed sum, in a deal that strengthens its position in enterprise upskilling and digital learning across Africa.
Founded in 2014, Rekindle Learning provides performance-driven learning tools for organisations across the continent, while EpiTek—launched in 2021—offers SaaS solutions for white-labelled online education platforms. Together, the companies are launching a new integrated platform, Rekindle EpiTek, which combines microlearning, live classrooms, AI-proctored assessments, and analytics in one system.
“This isn’t just about merging platforms – it’s about redefining how skills development happens in Africa,” said Rekindle CEO Sally Nhlanhla. “For the first time, companies can manage the entire training journey – from bite-sized learning to formal certification.”
EpiTek CEO Matthew Scott added that the merger “positions Rekindle as a high-impact African tech company, equipped to meet the continent’s training and skills development needs at scale.”

Key Takeaways
The deal reflects the convergence of corporate training and edtech in Africa, where businesses are under pressure to formalise upskilling as workforces adapt to automation, AI, and digital transformation. While most edtech platforms focus on schools or consumer-facing education, Rekindle EpiTek targets enterprise and accredited providers, offering both flexibility and compliance. By integrating AI invigilation, performance tracking, and certification pathways, the combined platform answers a critical demand from employers and regulators alike: ensuring measurable outcomes from training programmes. The move also mirrors a broader global trend where edtech M&A is consolidating fragmented solutions into more robust ecosystems. For Africa, where formal training infrastructure lags but mobile-first digital adoption is rising, this acquisition could set a new benchmark in how companies scale skills development.
