Key Takeaways
In August 2021, the Shoprite Group launched ShopriteX, a digital business hub that integrates data science, technology, and innovation with its operational capabilities to enhance customer experiences. This initiative is part of the Group's strategy to expand its value ecosystem for consumers and generate new and diverse revenue streams. The number of E-commerce users in South Africa is projected to grow from around 11.7 million in 2025 to 21.52 million by 2029. This indicates significant growth, which is forecasted to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.5% from 2022 to 2027. This development not only signifies further expansion in the sector but also intensifies competition in the market, where platforms like Amazon and Takealot are already established players.
