BRVM Posts Weekly Gain as Sicor, Sitab Lead Rally
TLDR
- BRVM indexes, including Composite and Prestige, saw gains in the week through Aug. 6, with SICOR and SITAB leading individual stocks higher.
- SICOR and SITAB experienced notable increases, attributed to factors like low liquidity and stock performance.
- Trading activity decreased, with share volume and traded value dropping, while market capitalization rose slightly.
The BRVM extended its gains in the week through Aug. 6, with all 4 main indexes advancing as SICOR Côte d’Ivoire and SITAB Côte d’Ivoire led individual stocks higher. The BRVM Composite rose 0.59% to 485.48 points, while the BRVM 30 gained 0.50% to 231.22. The BRVM Prestige added 0.49% to 178.43 and the BRVM Principal gained 0.72% to 367.89.
SICOR gained 10.70% to XOF7,085, the best performance reported for the week. The research note linked the move to the stock’s low liquidity, which can increase the effect of buy and sell orders. SITAB advanced 7.67% to XOF24,980. Market breadth was even, with 22 stocks rising, 22 falling and 3 unchanged.
Losses were led by NEI-CEDA Côte d’Ivoire, which fell 7.24% to XOF2,115 after gains in prior weeks. Africa Global Logistics Côte d’Ivoire dropped 5.95% to XOF2,530 after weaker 2025 results, while Total Côte d’Ivoire declined 5.71% to XOF2,805.
Trading activity fell during the shortened week. Share volume dropped 42.12% to 6.12 million from 10.58 million, while traded value declined 9.15% to XOF8.04 billion. The report attributed the fall to a national holiday and lower activity in Ecobank Transnational Inc. Equity market capitalization rose 0.58% to XOF18.70 trillion.
Sonatel Senegal remained the most traded stock, with XOF2.93 billion of transactions. Société Générale Côte d’Ivoire and SITAB also ranked among the most active shares. In fixed income, bond market capitalization fell 0.71% to XOF12.93 trillion, while Senegal’s 6.75% 2025-2028 bond accounted for 71.50% of weekly bond volume.
Key Takeaways
The week points to continued support for BRVM stocks, but the gains were not broad enough to show clear control by buyers. All 4 main indexes rose, yet the market finished with the same number of gainers and losers. That suggests the advance came from moves in selected stocks rather than a market-wide rally. SICOR’s 10.70% gain stands out, though the report notes that low liquidity can make its price more sensitive to individual orders. SITAB also gained and ranked among the most traded stocks, giving its move more support from activity. The decline in trading volume should also be read in context because the week had fewer sessions due to a national holiday. Traded value fell by a smaller 9.15%, while market capitalization still increased to XOF18.70 trillion. Sonatel’s XOF2.93 billion in transactions again shows how liquidity remains concentrated in a small group of names. The next test is whether the Composite can extend its advance during a full trading week with more stocks participating. A rise supported by stronger turnover and wider market breadth would give the trend more weight.
