Sun King Launches New Solar System for Homes and Small Businesses

Daba Finance/Sun King Launches New Solar System for Homes and Small Businesses
STARTUP VENTURE CAPITALJanuary 27, 2026 at 11:06 PM UTC

TLDR

  • Sun King launches HomePlus Max solar home system in Kenya, offering upgraded battery tech and expanded power options for households and small businesses.
  • HomePlus Max provides lighting for four rooms, fast charging for phones and laptops, and powers DC appliances like television and fan.
  • Off-grid solar evolves from basic lighting to full home solutions, with a focus on meeting increasing demand for reliable and sustainable energy sources in Africa.

Sun King has launched the HomePlus Max solar home system in Kenya, adding a higher-capacity product to its off-grid energy lineup.

The HomePlus Max features upgraded battery technology and expanded power options designed for households and small businesses. It provides lighting for up to four rooms, supports fast charging for phones and laptops, and powers DC appliances such as a 43-inch HD television, pedestal fan, and radio.

The system includes USB-C charging for laptops and other devices, a motion-detecting security light with a range of up to 7 meters, and dual charging through a roof-mounted solar panel and grid electricity. Sun King said the product delivers more power and faster charging than its earlier solar home systems.

Sun King operates across Africa and Asia and focuses on off-grid households without reliable electricity. The company has sold more than 30 million solar products since inception, using a mix of product design, pay-as-you-go financing, and local installation networks.

The HomePlus Max builds on Sun King’s experience in off-grid solar and targets users seeking a single system that can handle lighting, entertainment, and device charging without relying on diesel or unstable grid power.

Key Takeaways

The launch of HomePlus Max shows how off-grid solar is shifting from basic lighting toward full home and business energy solutions. Early systems focused on lamps and phone charging. Newer products aim to replace grid electricity for daily use. Rising demand for TVs, fans, and laptops has pushed solar providers to increase capacity and reliability. Battery improvements and USB-C charging reflect changing device needs across African households. Hybrid charging is also notable. Allowing grid charging alongside solar improves reliability in areas with partial access to electricity and reduces downtime during low sunlight periods. For Sun King, higher-capacity systems increase revenue per customer and support use cases beyond households, including shops and service businesses. This aligns with a broader trend where off-grid solar supports economic activity, not just household energy access. As grid expansion remains uneven, products like HomePlus Max position off-grid solar as a long-term alternative rather than a temporary fix.
