TLDR

  • Transcorp Hotels Plc reported a 0.55% increase in Q3 2026 profit before tax to ₦22.53 billion.
  • This growth occurred despite a 2.66% decline in revenue, largely supported by a significant rise in finance income.
  • The company is investing in the 5,000-seat Transcorp Centre to boost Nigeria's event tourism.

Transcorp Hotels Plc, the hospitality subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc, announced its unaudited financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026. The company reported a slight increase in profit before tax despite a decline in overall revenue for the period. This performance highlights the company's focus on operational efficiency and cost management.

The company posted a profit before tax of ₦22.53 billion for Q3 2026, marking a 0.55% growth from ₦22.4 billion reported in the corresponding period of 2025. This growth occurred even as revenue declined by 2.66% to ₦69.46 billion from ₦71.3 billion a year earlier. A significant factor contributing to the profit growth was a substantial increase in finance income, which rose by 756.2% to ₦4.46 billion from ₦520.68 million in Q3 2025.

Room revenue remained the largest contributor, generating ₦46.29 billion, approximately 66.6% of total revenue, though it was down from ₦46.65 billion. Food and beverage revenue also declined by 8.32% to ₦19.27 billion, accounting for about 27.7% of total revenue. Profit after tax grew by 4.8% to ₦15.5 billion from ₦14.8 billion. The company also saw its cost of sales drop by 6.4% to ₦16.15 billion, further aiding profitability.

Managing Director and CEO, Uzoamaka Oshogwe, stated that the Q3 performance demonstrates the strength of the company's earnings discipline, converting revenue into stronger profits and expanding the net profit margin to 22.3%. Chief Finance Officer, Oluwatobiloba Ojediran, noted improved earnings quality, with net finance cost easing and administrative expenses held below prior-year levels. The company's total assets expanded by 29% to ₦206.82 billion, while shareholders' funds reached ₦97.5 billion.

Transcorp Hotels continues to invest in transformative infrastructure, including the 5,000-seat Transcorp Centre, aiming to position Nigeria as a premier global destination for high-profile events. The company, listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited, is a key part of Transcorp Group, which holds strategic investments in power, hospitality, and energy sectors. This strategic focus aims to strengthen its brand and redefine hospitality standards across Africa.

Key Takeaways

Transcorp Hotels Plc's third-quarter 2026 results highlight a strategic shift towards enhancing profitability and financial resilience amidst a challenging revenue environment. While the company achieved a modest 0.55% growth in profit before tax despite a 2.66% revenue decline, this was significantly bolstered by a 756.2% surge in finance income, primarily from intercompany loan receivables and bank deposits. This suggests a reliance on financial engineering and treasury management to offset operational revenue pressures. The substantial increase in total borrowings to ₦54.96 billion from ₦10.52 billion at the end of 2025, coupled with a negative net cash from operating activities of ₦15.93 billion, indicates a dynamic capital structure and funding strategy. Management's emphasis on disciplined execution, effective resource management, and margin protection underscores a commitment to sustainable growth. The ongoing investment in the 5,000-seat Transcorp Centre, alongside the iconic Transcorp Hilton Abuja, positions the company to capitalize on future demand for high-profile events and reinforce Nigeria's standing as a premier global convening destination. This dual focus on financial prudence and strategic infrastructure development aims to redefine hospitality standards and ensure long-term value creation for Transcorp Group, the parent company with diverse interests in power, hospitality, and energy sectors.
