How to Create a Business Account on Daba: The Complete Guide

7 min Read September 10, 2026 at 12:00 PM UTC

Daba finance invest in Africa

Daba isn’t just for individual investors. Trusts, personal investment companies, family investment vehicles, and corporates can now invest in African markets through a dedicated business account — with a registration flow built specifically for institutions.

Once approved, a business account unlocks the same universe as every Daba account: stocks, bonds, managed funds, collections, and IPOs across the BRVM and NGX, funded in multiple currencies. The difference is in how the account is created and verified — and this guide walks you through every step.

Individual or Business? Choose Your Path

When you sign up on Daba, the first thing you’ll see is a simple choice: Individual or Institutional.

Choose Institutional, and the flow adapts to your business. You’ll register the company itself, designate an administrator, and list the company’s owners. A quick note before you start: business accounts go through manual verification by our compliance team — so while sign-up takes minutes, plan for the document review described below before the account is fully active.

One person — the designated contact — will act as the account’s administrator. Make sure that person is the one completing the registration.

Step 1: Enter Your Business Details

The first step captures your company’s core identity. Have these on hand:

  • Registered entity name — the legal name exactly as registered
  • Business registration number — your incorporation number as issued in your jurisdiction (formats vary by country; enter it as it appears on your documents)
  • Country of incorporation
  • Business email address — your company’s primary contact channel (each business email can only be used once on Daba)
  • Business phone / WhatsApp — with the country code, e.g. +225 or +234

That’s it for this step. Deliberately light — Daba’s design principle for onboarding is basic information first, verification afterward, so you create the account quickly and complete the heavier documentation at your own pace.

Step 2: Designate Your Administrator

Next, the primary contact — the person who will manage the account:

  • Full name, email, and phone number (the email can be the same as the business email; it becomes the administrator’s login)
  • Authority basis — this matters. You’ll be asked to confirm how the contact person derives their authority to act for the business, with two options:
    1. “I am a >25% beneficial owner” — you own more than a quarter of the business, or
    2. “I hold power of attorney” — you’re authorized to act on the company’s behalf

If you select power of attorney, you’ll be asked to upload the POA document during verification. If you’re a >25% owner, you’ll simply mark yourself in the owners list in the next step.

Step 3: List Your Beneficial Owners

Regulation requires Daba to know who ultimately owns the business. In this step, list every person who owns more than 25% of the company, with their full name and ownership percentage (nationality and ID documents can be added later, during verification).

Three things to know:

  • If the administrator said “I am a >25% owner” in Step 2, one owner in this list must be explicitly marked “This owner is the primary contact” — that’s how the two are linked.
  • No single owner above 25%? That’s common for widely held entities — and it’s a valid choice. Select it explicitly rather than leaving the list empty; our compliance team may ask for a supporting document at review.
  • The percentages don’t need to add up to 100% (many businesses have several small holders) — just make sure no single entry exceeds 100%.

Step 4: Set Your Password and Accept the Terms

Create your password, accept the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy, and your business account is created.

Two more things happen automatically at this point:

  • The administrator can log in immediately.
  • The administrator’s personal identity verification (KYC) starts right away — the same fast, fully digital flow as individual accounts: email confirmation, a 6-digit SMS/WhatsApp code, then a valid ID and a selfie. If you’ve read our KYC guide, you know the drill: good lighting, all four corners of the document visible, no glare. Most people finish in under 5 minutes.

Step 5: Complete Business Verification (KYB)

Here’s the key difference from individual accounts. While the administrator’s KYC is automatic, the business itself goes through KYB — Know Your Business — a manual, document-driven review by Daba’s compliance team. Everything happens in the Verification tab inside the app, where you’ll see both tracks side by side: the administrator’s KYC and the business’s KYB.

The documents you’ll need

Six documents are required for every business:

  1. Certificate of incorporation
  2. Registration documents
  3. Statuses / Articles of association (statuts)
  4. Tax ID documents
  5. Proof of address
  6. Proof of bank (bank statement, RIB, or voided cheque)

Depending on your answers, you may also need:

  • Power of attorney — required if the administrator is not a >25% owner
  • Beneficial owner ID — one government ID per listed >25% owner (if the administrator is also an owner, their KYC ID does double duty — no need to upload it twice)
  • Certificate of good standing — optional, but recommended

Anything that doesn’t fit a category can be uploaded as a free-named document. Accepted formats are PDF, JPG, and PNG, and you can upload multiple files per document type — useful for multi-page scans.

Submit and track your review

Once every mandatory document is in, the Submit for review button activates. From there, the Verification tab keeps you informed at every stage: Submitted → Under review → Approved — or, if something needs attention, More info needed with the specific documents requested.

One detail our early business users appreciate: review is per document, not all-or-nothing. If five documents are accepted and one scan is unreadable, the reviewer accepts the five and requests a re-upload of the one — with a note explaining what’s needed. You’ll never restart the whole submission over a single blurry page.

Full Activation: What Unlocks and When

Your business account is fully activated — deposits, funding, and investing unlocked — when both tracks are complete: the administrator’s KYC and the business’s KYB approval. Until then, you can log in, explore the platform, and finish your documentation, with investing surfaces gated behind the familiar “verify to unlock” pattern.

After that, your business invests exactly like any Daba account: fund in your currency, access every product, track the portfolio — with the company, not an individual, as the account holder.

Before You Start: A 2-Minute Checklist

  • ☑ Company legal name and registration number
  • ☑ Country of incorporation, business email, and phone
  • ☑ Your administrator identified, with their authority basis (owner or POA)
  • ☑ List of all >25% owners with percentages
  • ☑ The six mandatory documents scanned as PDF, JPG, or PNG
  • ☑ POA document, if the administrator isn’t a >25% owner

With these ready, registration takes minutes — and one more feature is working quietly in your favor: the flow autosaves at every step, so if you’re interrupted mid-registration, you resume exactly where you left off.
