Dividend season is upon us on the BRVM (Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières), and several companies have already announced their proposed 2025 dividend distributions.

As an investor looking to generate passive income from West African stocks, staying informed about these dividend announcements is crucial for your investment strategy.

What Are Dividends and Dividend Yields?

Dividends are portions of a company’s profits distributed to shareholders as a reward for their investment. These regular cash payments represent one of the most tangible benefits of stock ownership, providing investors with income regardless of stock price fluctuations.

The dividend yield is a financial ratio that shows how much a company pays in dividends each year relative to its stock price. Calculated by dividing the annual dividend per share by the current share price, it’s expressed as a percentage.

For example, a stock trading at 5,000 XOF with an annual dividend of 400 XOF has a dividend yield of 8%.

Higher yields can indicate better value, but extremely high yields sometimes signal potential problems with a company’s financial health or sustainability of dividend payments.

Companies That Have Announced Dividends in 2025 (So Far)

Several BRVM-listed companies have already announced their dividend payments for 2025. Here’s what we know so far:

Important Dates and How to Invest

The dividend calendar shows several key dates for each company:

  • Announcement Date: When the company officially declares the dividend
  • Ex-Dividend Date: The cut-off date to be eligible for the dividend (you must own the stock before this date)
  • Payment Date: When the dividend will be paid to shareholders

To capitalize on these dividend opportunities, investors can purchase shares through the Daba app before the ex-dividend date.

Remember that share prices often adjust downward by approximately the dividend amount after the ex-dividend date.
