How to Invest in the Dangote IPO From Nigeria

How Nigeria-based investors can prepare for the Dangote IPO: brokerage, CSCS, and KYC steps to complete now.

For investors based in Nigeria, participating in a future Dangote Refinery IPO would follow the same general path as any other NGX public offering — there’s no separate Nigeria-specific process beyond standard NGX and SEC requirements. As of this writing, no subscription window is open, since the offer hasn’t been approved or priced yet, but here’s how to prepare.

You’ll need an NGX-licensed stockbroker. Many Nigerian banks have brokerage arms, and there are also standalone licensed brokerages; either route works, provided the broker is licensed to handle NGX transactions. Opening an account typically requires standard Nigerian KYC documentation — a valid means of identification (national ID, international passport, driver’s license, or voter’s card are commonly accepted), a Bank Verification Number (BVN), proof of address, and passport photographs. Exact requirements can vary slightly by broker.

Alongside your brokerage account, you’ll need a CSCS (Central Securities Clearing System) account, where your shares will be held electronically once allotted. Most brokers set this up as part of onboarding.

For funding, Nigerian investors would typically pay for IPO subscriptions via bank transfer or another method specified by the receiving bank named in the eventual prospectus — this detail will be confirmed once the offer is officially open.

One nuance worth knowing about for Nigeria-based investors specifically: some IPOs allow subscription without a full bank account setup or without a BVN in certain limited circumstances, but requirements can vary by offer and broker, so this shouldn’t be assumed for Dangote’s IPO until the prospectus confirms the actual process.

The most productive step available right now is getting your brokerage account, CSCS account, and KYC documents in order ahead of time, so that once an official Dangote prospectus and subscription window are published — which the company has targeted for around September 2026, though not yet formally approved — you can apply promptly rather than scrambling to open accounts during a short subscription window.
