How to Invest in the Dangote IPO From the UAE

How UAE-based investors can prepare to access the Dangote IPO through NGX-licensed brokers, ahead of an official subscription window.
For investors based in the UAE, including Dubai’s sizable Nigerian and broader African diaspora community, accessing a future Dangote Refinery IPO would run through the Nigerian Exchange. As of this writing, the offer has been filed with Nigeria’s SEC but hasn’t been priced or opened for subscription, so this is preparation rather than a live process.
The general route for foreign investors is opening an account with an NGX-licensed stockbroker that accepts non-resident clients, or using an international or regional brokerage platform that offers NGX market access. As a UAE-based applicant, expect standard KYC documentation: valid identification (passport), proof of UAE residence, and any additional foreign-investor compliance paperwork required by your chosen broker, which can vary.
It’s worth noting that Dangote Cement board member Mariya Dangote has publicly stated that the group considered, and ultimately moved away from, a Dubai secondary listing for the separate Dangote Cement business (not the refinery), citing that a Dubai listing would have taken longer to arrange than the London route the company ultimately chose. That decision applies to Dangote Cement specifically, not the refinery IPO, but it’s a useful reminder that these are genuinely separate corporate transactions with their own listing venues.
Funding a refinery IPO subscription from the UAE would typically involve an international bank transfer to move funds into Nigeria’s financial system, since the offer would be naira-denominated. Returns and dividends would likewise be naira-denominated, so UAE-based investors should factor in naira/dirham currency exposure alongside the underlying investment risk.
The most useful step available now is identifying a broker or platform that can service UAE-based clients for NGX investing and getting your documentation in order, so you can act quickly once Dangote’s official prospectus and subscription details are published.
